The Teen-Girl Zone - Tools to Organize Teenage Girls' Rooms

So, you have bravely decided to roam where more faint-hearted mothers dare not: The Teen-Girl Zone, a.k.a. your daughter's room! You want to help your teenage girls get organized, but you're not sure where to start. Well, as a professional organizer and mother of four teenage girls, I have a few tools to help you get your teenage girls get organized.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

Let me encourage you by reminding you that learning any skill takes repetition, reward and coaching. I also have a small word of warning-if you have a rocky relationship with your teenage girl, this could become a bit of a power struggle. You don't want to come between her clutter and emotions. May I suggest that you do a little research and determine what "organizational type" your daughter is. Organizing for Your Brain Type, by Lana Nakone is a valuable resource that will help you decide whether your teenage girl is a people person, innovator, maintainer or prioritizer. Knowing how she needs to organize may reduce your struggles in the Teen-Girl Zone! What is the most fun schedule to get organized? Get in the Zone!

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

In the Zone

When you help a teenage girl organize her space, start with a few questions:

1. What do you love about your room?
2. What do you dislike about your room?
3. What things are in the right place that you definitely don't want to move?
4. What do you do in your room? (Sleep, dress, read, homework, etc.)
5. Do you like the color and general arrangement of your room?

Knowing the answers to these questions helps get you in the zone and guides the organizational process, helping you see how you can avoid struggle. These questions also give you an opportunity to uncover possible areas for incentive. Would your daughter enjoy new bedding or painting her room? Perhaps you can offer those as rewards to her when she has organized her room and maintained it for one month.

Prepared with the right information, you will have success in the zone.

Zoning

To a local government, zoning means determining how an area is to be used or developed-that's the kind of zoning you are going to help your teenage girl with. You know what zoning means to the average teenager! It's your job to help your teenage girl use these organizing tools to transform teenage zoning to space-use zoning.

Zone One-The Sleep Zone

It may seem obvious, but your daughter will be sleeping in the sleep zone, which includes the area immediately around your daughter's bed. You should ask her what she needs to get a good night's sleep. Make a list of those items and make sure that those items are in her sleep zone.

Some items to consider in the sleep zone are: the bed, pillows, blankets, an alarm clock, and nightstand. Depending on your daughter's habits, she may need a good lamp on her nightstand for reading; reading material; tissues; a water glass; paper and pencil; and chap stick. If there is no room for a nightstand, consider providing your daughter with a basket that can hold the things she needs that can be stowed under the bed or on a nearby shelf. A floor lamp or a lamp that can be clamped to her headboard may be good alternatives for lighting.

Here's a tip that can instantly make your daughter's room look orderly: have her make her bed every day. If this is a habit she has never developed, you could offer to buy her new bedding if she consistently makes it every day for a set period of them - one month is usually long enough to establish a new habit.

The last area to work on in the sleep zone is the space under the bed. Pull every thing out that may be lurking there. Sort through what needs to be kept in the sleep zone, what needs to be stored elsewhere, and what can be thrown away. My girls store bulky items like sleeping bags, overnight bags, and folding chairs under the bed.

Zone Two-The Clothes Zone

The Clothes Zone will probably take the most time of any zone in your teen girl's room to organize. Make sure you have time to complete this project in one session; it could take up to three hours to organize, depending on how many clothes your teen has. You will need storage boxes or bags and cleaning supplies.

I have created a process to help you get your teenage girl's clothes organized. Here are my seven steps to Clothes Zone Heaven!

Step One: Take all of her clothes out of her closet and dresser drawers and create categorized piles.

Pile 1-This season's clothes, shoes and accessories that you are wearing now. Keep only clothes that fit and that you like and use.

Pile 2-Out-of-season clothes, shoes and accessories that you are sure will fit next year and that you like and will continue to use/wear.

Pile 3-All clothes, shoes and accessories that are too small, you don't like, are stained or are beyond repair. (Bag up items to pass on to a sibling or friend. Or, you may want to take usable items to a consignment store or charity. Throw away everything that's in unusable condition!)

Step Two: Take out all games, memorabilia, toys and stuff. Decide what you will keep and what can be given away. Anything in poor repair or missing pieces should be thrown away.

Step Three: Clean the closets and drawers thoroughly while they are empty. Wipe down walls and shelves, and then vacuum the floor and cobwebs along the ceiling.

Step Four: Place this season's clothes, shoes and accessories back into the closet or dresser drawers. Hang or fold all clothes neatly. Make sure that jackets are buttoned or zipped. Group clothes by category: pants; shirts; skirts; and dresses together. Hang belts on hooks or hangers. Consider a shoe organizer, if your teen-girl has lots of shoes.

Step Five: Place off-season clothes, shoes and accessories in a clear plastic bin and store under the bed or in the attic. If your closet is big enough, you may store your office season clothes and other items in the back of your closet.

Step Six: Place all games, toys and memorabilia back in your closet on a shelf or easy to see place. If memorabilia is worth keeping, it is worth keeping well, so make sure that your teen has an appropriately sized box to store all items neatly. You will also want to take this time to help your daughter consider what items are truly worth saving and which things she might let go.

Step Seven: Now that all of your teen-girl's clothing and other belongings are neatly organized you can easily see what items she may need. Make a list and plan to purchase and replace needed items.

Now that you have completed the seven steps to Clothes Zone Heaven all your teen girl needs to do is maintain the new order. I have found that it goes well when my daughters take a few moments each week to make sure that they are keeping things stored properly. Remind your daughter to give you items that they try on and no longer fit or that become stained or otherwise un-wearable. Dealing with items as they fall out of use is easier than working through an entire closet. Also, encourage her to immediately put clothes away that she decides not to wear. It takes seconds to hang up one outfit. It can take 15 minutes or more to sort through and put away a pile of clothes!

Finally, you will want to make plans to revisit the Clothes Zone each season to repeat all seven steps.

Zone Three-The Study Zone

Zone Three is really a matter of preference. You need to consider where your daughter usually does her homework. If she most often does her homework in her room, not the kitchen table or sitting in the bonus room, then she needs a homework zone established in her room.

If she prefers sitting at desk, then have her sit down at her desk and think through all the supplies that she needs while she is working there. Ask her what she uses every day or weekly. When I am working with a client, I give items that receive regular use what I call prime real estate. Anything not related to the tasks your daughter does sitting at the desk, do not get to stay there. Keepsakes and memorabilia must be "containerized" and stored elsewhere. If your daughter prefers to work sitting on her bed or the floor, maybe all she needs is a basket of supplies that she can pull out when she is working. Next, make sure her Homework Zone is well lighted and that she has a comfortable chair.

You will also want to make sure that this zone is well supplied, include: a calendar, clear sheet protectors, notebooks, note pads, as well as pencils and pens with a carrying case.

Zoned Out

Now that you have worked through the three main zones of your daughter's room, you will almost always have items that don't fit into any of the zones. You may place these in a bin and go through them to consider whether you will keep them. Here's the test. Ask whether the item is used daily or weekly. If it is used that often, then it can stay.

With memorabilia and other items left, ask:

- Do you want to display the item-- Should the item be stored or placed in a container to keep it in good condition-- Do you want to place the item in a scrapbook or photo album-- Is there someone with whom you can share the item-

With collections ask:

- On a scale from one to ten, how much do you love this collection-- Do you need the entire collection or just a few favorites-- If the collection is important to you, are you keeping it well and where it can be enjoyed-If you both decide that a collection will be kept, assign it a shelf or container. When the space is full, attempt to purge the collection to make room for new items.

A final word of encouragement-if your daughter (or you!) struggle to let things go, try storing an item for six months. Agree that the item will be given or thrown away, if your daughter has not asked for it during that time. Remember this is a life skill! If your daughter learns to manage her possessions now, she will have less stress and be equipped to manage her own home some day.

Kids' Storage Ideas

Has your home been an organizer's nightmare since you brought the children home? Even one child can pack a housekeeping punch, even before they are ever brought into the house. Babies and kids come with so much stuff. You need things for sleeping, eating, changing, bathing, clothing, and let's not forget, playing. All of these things can add up to a huge amount to organize. With parenthood being the busiest time of most people's lives, it can be hard to keep up with the major things, much less all of those little things. However, it must be done. If you don't spend some time getting it together, then it will only get worse and swallow you up. Use these tips for getting your child's things in order and most importantly, keeping them that way!

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

1) All the organizational products in the world won't keep you organized. Setting things up in a practical way should always be on your mind while you're organizing. Here's an example; Some people really enjoy having a changing station or changing table in the nursery. However, an overwhelming percentage of people who buy them, never use them. How could something that you'll use several times a day that stores all of your related baby items never get used? Location, location, location! Most people do not have the nursery right off of their living room, where they'll spend most of their time. So, they end up using a changing pad instead. The lesson here is that being expensive or seeming like a great idea means nothing if it's not convenient to use.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

2) Keeping the convenience factor in mind, figure out where you want to organize. Don't make the mistake of creating plenty of space for toys all over the kids' rooms if the kids' toys are always all over the den. Your best bet for keeping a space organized is to provide easy access areas for toys to go. You'll have much more success in getting help from your family if you place your buckets, bins, toy boxes and shelves very near where they will usually be playing with these things.

3) Do yourself a favor and make it easy for everyone in the house to help you. Even toddlers can put their own clothes away if you simply lay pajamas flat instead of folding, use children's hangers instead of adult hangers, and have a separate bucket for socks and burp cloths. Lower your perspective and think about what would be easy on your child's level. Infant hangers and baby hangers are much easier to handle, plus they don't stretch and damage little clothes. Clothes that don't wrinkle, don't necessarily have to be folded or hung. Making daily tasks easier will make organization a lower maintenance job.

How to Organize Your Child's Dress Up Clothes

If your house is anything like mine, you have dress up clothes scattered everywhere around the house from the kids bedrooms, to the playroom, to dress up shoes in the kitchen to trip over every time you turn around! With 3 kids, 2 girls and a boy who have vivid imaginations and love to pretend, on any given day I have a Sleeping Beauty dress on my bed, a princess wand on the bathroom floor, dressups scattered all over the hallway and a pirate cape in my baby's crib (because he won't let go of it when he goes down for a nap, because he loves the softness of the velvet and the china silk lining against his face). There is a great need at our house for some toy storage and a place to put the dress ups.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

First of all, my kids are terrible about hanging things up. They don't have the dexterity to put a dress on a hanger yet and have it stay. So hanging it up in a closet is not really an option for my children to put away their costumes by themselves. A good alternative is hooks. You can get the adhesive kind that you just stick on the wall or you can get decorative hooks that you screw in. Your kids can then easily hang up their princess or pirate clothes on the hooks to keep the floor tidy and neat and also so the costumes last longer. This concept also teaches them respect for their special things and helps them to clean up by themselves.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

Another idea would be to purchase a toy box or a dress up trunk for only their dress up clothes. They can just stuff their things in there when they are done playing with them and Voila! Clothes off the floor. Toy boxes or dress up trunks are great because they are inexpensive, an easy way for your child to clean up by themselves, and you can put them anywhere and they look beautiful. However, the one down side with dress up trunks is that if they are deep, you can't reach the things on the bottom, so the whole thing needs to get dumped out, or the things in the bottom don't get played with as much as the things on the bottom.

An under the bed plastic storage box seems to work well for dress up costumes. They can get their box out when they are ready to play dress up and put it back when they are done. This method works great when toys are stored exclusively in the bedroom of the child.

We have large built in storage drawers in our basement playroom for toys to go in. It works very well. The kids can fold and put their dress up clothes in the large drawer when they are cleaning up. It is simple and easy for them to do. They also put their princess accessories in there, as well as their capes and previous Halloween costumes in the drawers. Over the years, we have had to expand to several drawers for their dress ups as dress up clothes seem to be a timeless, ageless gift that they always ask for and play with on a daily basis.

Organizing you dress up clothes can be fun and rewarding. Spending a few minutes in the short run will make a big difference long term!

Mudroom Madness

Is your mudroom, hallway, foyer or entry way making you mad?

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

Do you constantly trip over everything on the floor?

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

Is there no space to put anything?

Or has your clutter been like this so long that you just pass by and not really see what your guests see?

You may just spend minutes coming or going but this brief time can definitely set the tone for the start or end of your working day.

Nothing says welcome like entering into a space where you feel comfortable and can easily store your coat, shoes and outerwear items. Think about your home's entry and incorporate these ideas to help keep it in top shape and keep you sane:

1. Give each family member a space: limit the amount each person can keep there (number of shoes, bags, etc.). Locker-like cubbies, milk crates or laundry baskets are great and can work well depending on the space. Allow only items that are used frequently and for that season in this area. Have adjustable shelves and hooks to grow with your child. Think about what is reachable for your child when deciding where to hang hooks and put baskets. Square cubbies are great for kids' extra-curricular supplies and equipment; even shallow cubbies are helpful for stashing things away.

2. Have a place to sit to put on shoes. A bench with storage under the seat is a great multi-purpose item. A chest or toy box can make a great bench/storage option, too. Or tuck bins under a bench or chairs. This is a great place to keep sports equipment. Be diligent about keeping this seat clutter-free so you will always have a spot to quickly sit to lace up your shoes.

3.Provide enough hooks. Make sure that there is at least one hook per family member (an easy alternative to nagging kids to hang up coats). Strong hooks are also great to get book bags off the floor. Use big hooks for heavy coats and small ones for umbrellas and hats. Don't forget the family dog! Have a hook for his leash. Hooks can also be placed on the back of doors. Hooks are a great way to tap into unused storage space- the walls and doors. Make sure the kids' hooks are at their level and the adults can use the upper space.

4. Create a specific area for your pets. In one spot store leashes, waste bags, outside toys, treats, a cloth to wipe paws and winter paw protector or booties. Think about opting for bag holders that attach to the leash, collapsible water bowls and treat or ball bags that clip on your belt to save your pockets from an overflow of plastic bags and 'cookie' crumbs. Have reflective bands for you and your dog for nighttime outings-especially important in fall and winter as the days become shorter. You may also wish to consider a place to stash indoor toys on your way out.

5.Think up, way up. Build a custom cabinet up to the ceiling to maximize storage of out of season items higher up. If you are working with the closet you have, use labeled bins and boxes for seldom used or out of season items and store higher up. Consider adding an extra shelf above the existing ones. Could you double rod the closet - adults coats on the top - children's below. If you do not have a front closet, you must be particularly selective about what you keep in your entrance. Think seasonal - what do I really need right now? Keep things for this time of year and store the rest elsewhere in your house.

6. Watch out for wet items. Allow each family member to have only one pair of shoes out at a time on a boot rack. Once a pair is dry it should be put away. Wet mittens and hats can be hung by clothes pins on a line that runs vertically or horizontally--thread line through pins' spring, spacing them along the line, or use a pretty piece of 1 inch ribbon that they will easily clip to. Hang this mini clothesline close to a heat vent or heater. Again, once dry, these items should be stashed away.

7. Make a message centre. A bulletin board nearby, will help keep your family on schedule. Pin forms, invitations, practice schedules, and a calendar. This will help you remember to grab these items on the way out.

8. Check yourself out - add a mirror. Not only does it help make the space appear larger, it is convenient for you to give yourself a once-over before rushing out the door. It will help you catch turned up collars, food in teeth and hat-head. Get a mirror that has a small ledge for lipstick and a comb.

9. Give some careful thought to every item in the mudroom. Use waterproof paint and tile floors to deal with the moisture that will be coming in. Allow lots of natural light in and install ceiling light for nighttime entrances. If there is something there that doesn't serve a purpose, remove it. Space is at a premium in the mudroom, so make sure you have a rationale for all your choices.

It may be a little space, but a little time and thought can rid you of the aggravation and madness of your mudroom.

Toy Solutions at Grandma and Grandpa's Home

What do these three people have in common?

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

1) These grandparents' grandchildren live in a different state than they live in and the children only visit twice a year.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

2) The grandparents live in a condo with limited space,

3) another grandparent is 'obsessed with having a picture perfect home'.

The common denominator is they all love their grandchildren and want to have toys for them when they come to visit and play yet they don't know how to store toys without taking up a lot of space in their home. Organizing toys in small spaces can be a challenge. Here are some tried and true solutions:

1.Make a home for toys. Buy a container with a lid and fill it with toys. The size of the container will determine how many toys you can have. Plastic containers on wheels that slide under a bed are a solution for those with small spaces. Plastic drawers that stack and are on wheels could be stored in a closet between visits. A wicker basket with a lid can double as a toy chest and a coffee table. A chest of drawers not being used or designating a couple of drawers can store children's costumes, games and puzzles. A book case in a guest room or some other infrequently used area of the home could hold books, puzzles and larger items like dolls and large trucks. The size of the toy could also determine if it is one for you to have in your home.

2.When using drawers for storage label the drawers by using a label maker so the children know where to return the toy. For younger children take a photo of what is in the drawer and tape it to the drawer, either on the outside or if you prefer on the inside of the drawer on the side where it is still visible. Keep small pieces together in inexpensive plastic boxes or zip lock bags. Using a sharpie permanent pen write on the container or bag the game or toy that 'lives' inside.

3.Another solution to having toys for children to play with at grandma and grandpas is to have the parents bring the children's favorite toys when they come to play. However I prefer to have toys that are different than the ones they have at home; ones they can only play with at grandma and grandpas. This makes the toys even more special. Besides the toys, stock activities that can be done together to build fun memories with those precious grandchildren when they come over and visit. Some ideas are puzzles, clay, and dress up clothes to put on plays or for just pretending to help their imaginations grow. Take pictures of them playing and make a little book to give to their parents as a surprise or for some holiday like mother's or father's day.

So now you have the toys the kids enjoy playing with, the containers for them to live in and a storage area has been designated for the containers when they aren't being used; there is one more thing to consider. Children need to know the expectation is when they get the toys out to play with they are also responsible to put them away. After play time or before they go home leave time for them to put the toys away where they belong. This teaches responsibility and a sense of ownership. You won't dread them coming over and having a lot of extra work to do cleaning up after them when they leave and you'll look forward to them coming again.

Organizing Tips to Tame the Toy Room

If you've got kids, you've got toys. Tired of tripping over dolls, trucks, and blocks? Here are some tips on how to organize the toys so that they don't take over your home.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

Most parents admit that their kids have too many toys, so the first step is to pare down. When purging toys, divide and conquer by sorting into 3 piles:

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

1. Damaged: toys that are broken or missing parts (these will be tossed)
2. Outcasts: toys that the kids have outgrown or never really played with in the first place (these will be sent to charity)

3. Favorites: toys that are enjoyed on a regular basis (these stay)

When taking toys to charity, get your children involved. Once they see the value in giving to those less fortunate, they may be more willing to let go.

Toy Storage Tips:

o Having too many toys in the playroom overwhelms kids just as much as parents. You can cut down on excess toys by rotating them. Get a large plastic storage container, label it 'toy library' and place a selection of toys inside it. Put the lid on the container and store it in an out-of-the way place for several months. Every so often, bring out the toy library and exchange the stored toys for other toys that the kids are bored with. The old toys will seem new again and engage the child's interest.

o Organize the toy room in zones: The dress-up zone, the dolls zone, the play kitchen zone, the craft zone, the building block zone, etc. This is the model used to keep kindergarten classrooms organized.

o When it comes to storing toys, traditional wooden toy chests are not very useful. Most kids empty them out and climb in or small toys get all tangled up, damaged and forgotten.

o Use small, clear, open plastic bins (no lids) on shelves and sort toys into similar categories to make finding and tidying up a breeze. Label them with pictures if your child is too young to read. Small, lightweight containers with handles are easier to pull off the shelf.

o Make sure shelves are low (no more than 3 shelves high) so kids can reach their favorite toys. Secure shelving to the wall with brackets to avoid tipping.

o For older children, use plastic freezer bags that zip up to keep small game pieces or puzzle pieces together. (Small children may put the bags over their heads, which could pose a hazard).

o Use hooks or clothing trees to hang dress-up clothes.

o A colourful tackle box with dividers is an ideal way to store small doll accessories on the top and favorite Barbie's on the bottom. Or, use it for Lego kits. Its portability is an added bonus when visiting grandparents or sleeping over at a friend's house.

o Children's books usually don't have spines, so placing them on a bookshelf makes locating favorite books difficult. Solve this problem by storing books in plastic bins with the title of the books facing front.

Tips to Maintain a Tidy Toy Room:

o To keep the toy room tidy, have a 15-minute clean-up time everyday and explain to kids that the alternative is spending a whole Saturday cleaning up. Use a timer and put on some of their favorite music to add an element of novelty.

o Do your part to cut down on toy clutter. Loot bags brought home from birthday parties are usually big clutter culprits. For your child's birthday parties, instead of handing out dollar store items that will end up on the floor, start a trend by giving . Gift cards from movie rental or book stores.

o When purchasing toys, choose those that stimulate imagination and creativity so children don't lose interest. Examples: black board, art supplies and paper, instruments, dress-up clothes.

o Request that family members and friends give your children the gift of an experience instead of a toy. This includes taking them to an amusement park, a movie, a concert, or paying for some music or sports lessons.

Take the time to teach your children how to keep their toys organized and the whole family will enjoy the benefits for years to come.

Rack Shelving For Keeping the Kids' Toys Under Control

Kids always seem to be getting more and more toys, and the situation can easily get out of control. They are also notorious for not picking up after themselves, and getting upset when they can't find the particular toy that they are looking for. There are a number of ways you can help to control the chaos. A rack shelving storage system and a bit of time spent organizing can really go a long way in helping to get things under control.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

One of the first things you should do is get some rack shelving with bins. For smaller kids it is nice to have the open bins on angled shelves so they can easily see what is in each bin and reach what they would like. If you organize everything small into these bins and set up shelves for the larger toys, you can then label the places where each type of toy goes (either with pictures for smaller kids or words for bigger kids) so that it is obvious where everything belongs. Try to get the kids to put things away when they are done playing.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

If the amount of toys that the kids have is just too crazy and out of control, you can try sorting them out into groups of toys that you rotate. Every few months you can switch the toys that are out in the bins and shelves and it will be like they have all new toys. Most kids are happy to go along with this system since too many toys at once can be a bit overwhelming, and they tend to forget what all they have. You can store the toys that are out of rotation in closed bins in a closet or maybe on rack shelving in the basement.

There are a number of rack shelving systems out there that are meant just for kids. They are colorful and made with kid friendly designs so that they will look right in any toy room. However, you can also adapt any shelving that you have. Use colored baskets or bins to go with the decor of the room where the kids usually play and store their toys.

Improve Your Quilting With Storage Organizers

I love quilting but like most hobbies, it requires many specialized tools if you want to do it with precision (and I do). Many quilters also have quite a "stash" - this refers to the fabric we collect over time (both scraps and larger pieces) that we keep on hand to provide an ever present opportunity to make interesting quilts. If you're not careful though, it can become a storage nightmare keeping all your fabric organized in a way you remember you have it and can use it.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

To me, the best part of quilting is exercising your creativity. There are an endless number of ways to put together pieces of material. I like to keep my fabric out in the open to spur my creative side. Thankfully, I found several storage organizers (including a few originally designed for toys) to help me do just that.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

A toy organizer with large colored bins was just the ticket to keep all my fabrics organized by color families. My blue fabrics are in the blue bin. My red/pink material are in the red bin. And so on. It also keeps them out in the open so that my creative juices are flowing.

I use a toy organizer with smaller bins for all my sewing accessories. This includes my safety pins, extra thread, rotary cutter (s), needles, various rulers, etc. A kids sling bookshelf holds my many quilting books face out so I can easily grab them as needed.

My husband had already built a large sewing table for me. It has several spots underneath for storing large plastic bins. This is where I keep bulk material such as backing and batting pieces. And where I store my extra cutting mat.

Now I have everything I need at my fingertips where I can see it and easily find it. Quilting has never been more enjoyable and all it took was a few storage organizers.

Storage Boxes - The Perfect Way to Store Your Kids Toys

Storage Boxes are boxes that allow you to keep things you are not currently using at the moment, they are used to declutter and simplify your life. These boxes which come in all shapes and sizes, a variety of colors and decor, various make and material is the most effective way for humans young and the not so young to organize things.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

From beneath the office table to your garden to the inside of your house you can find a variety of uses for storage boxes. One of those uses is for decluttering and organizing your kids rooms.

Toy Organizer Storage Bins

Every parent knows that living with kids and playing with them is absolutely fun, however after the games you will usually find yourself picking after their toys and get them straight to the toy storage. There are mainly three possible ways to store your kid's toys: toy cabinets or toy shelves, stackable boxes, drawers, and storage boxes.

Some parents store their kids toys on toy cabinets or shelves which are more often taller than the child. While this is convenient for the parent and aesthetically pleasing this could pose dangers to a little child.

For instance, his favorite toy could be up there on the topmost shelves and he wants to reach for it using a bench. If you're not there to supervise, he could fall and hurt himself. Another scenario, which is scary but worth mentioning is the fact that he might climb the cabinet and have the cabinet topple over him.

Another way to store toys especially if there are many of them are stackable boxes which are okay as long as you don't stack them on top of each other for the same reasons mentioned earlier. Drawers are potentially dangerous because they might pull a drawer all the way out and you get the picture. In short these are accidents waiting to happen.

Storage boxes particularly those designed for kids have features built into it that makes them friendly for little kids and encourages them to keep their toys inside when not in use. These features are: durability, bright colors that kids love, decorated with their favorite cartoon characters, some are transparent so that they can immediately see what's inside, some have wheels so that the boxes can easily be moved and some even look like a racing wheel.

Perhaps the most wonderful feature a child will appreciate is the fact that some boxes are multifunctional, meaning they serve another purpose other than a toy box. Some can double as benches and some can double as tables.

An important thing that you must remember if you are going to buy a box for your kid's toys is that aside from those features mentioned above is to choose the one that is just enough for his height but is big enough to store his larger toys, and has a lid he can safely open and close.

The great news is that these storage boxes are not only for your tiny tots. If you have older kids you can buy them boxes where they can store their comic books, baseball cards, their books, and other things their imagination tells them.
